DMI GLOBAL WEBSITE

DMI (UK) Ltd
Surface treatment for all industries

DMI (UK), based in the North East of England, specialise in the surface treatment of new and the reconditioning of worn components.
New components can be manufactured from less expensive, more available materials and surface treated to provide the required
characteristics of wear, chemical and corrosion resistance, anti stick and low friction finish and cosmetic appearance, etc.
Worn components can be returned to original or better than original condition.
DMI carry out work for many prestige companies including Rolls Royce, MAN B&W,
Jaguar/Land Rover, VW, BAE Systems, Nissan, SKF, Honda, TRW & Toyota
DMI facilities include a computer controlled automated plating line capable of processing up to 40,000 components a day.

DMI (UK) GENERAL INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES
DMI (UK) carry out a range of p
rocesses include hard chrome, engineering nickel and copper electroplating, zinc electroplating with various passivations, zinc barrel plating, PTFE & molybdenum disulphide coatings, hard, chromic, plain and colour anodising, Alochrom, stainless steel passivation, phosphating, shotblasting, painting, machining, grinding and honing.

These processes are used to in the automotive, construction, defence, food, hydraulics, marine, mining, oil and gas - offshore, paper, plastics, power generation, rail traction, renewables, textile, water treatment and wood processing industries.

A small selection of the components processed by DMI are listed below

Door Outer Punch DMI are the world leaders in the hard chromium plating of automotive press and large plastic moulding tools.
Benefits of the DMI process include reductions in press down time, die wear, die maintenance, lubricant use, panel re-work and scrap and increases in panel quality & production efficiency. New tools can be manufactured from lower grades of material to reduce initial costs. Benefits can be achieved on a wide range of base materials and panel materials.

Finished liner

DMI specialise in the porous hard chromium plating of new and worn diesel engine cylinder liners used in Rail, Marine, Power Generation and other Industries. Liners processed by DMI (UK) range up to 400 mm diameter bore. Using a combination of electroplating together with associated grinding, honing and machining, DMI are able to surface treat new and to recondition worn cylinder liners from diesel engines, pumps, compressors and gas engines and return them to original size. DMI are an accredited supplier of new cylinder liners to OEMs. Click here for more information

ball pin for self lubricating bearing Hard chrome plating of components for self lubricating bearings used in rail, aerospace and other industries. DMI hard chrome plating provides wear resistance, anti stick properties, controlled surface finishes and very low and consistent friction characteristics without the need for lubrication. DMI process small or large batches of such components to very high quality standards, with rapid turn around and at competitive prices. DMI are able to set up quickly and cost effectively for a wide range of components which enables us to offer a highly competitive service.
automotive valves DMI (UK) hard chrome plate the stem area of automotive engine valves. The hard chrome layer provides much improved wear resistance and anti-fretting and anti-stick properties when compared to the base material and covers dissimilar base materials which, if not coated, produce different sliding, anti-stick and wear characteristics. The hard chrome layer provides a consistent, homogeneous stem surface which is several times harder than the valve base material. The result is substantially improved and consistent wear and corrosion resistance.
chrome plated rollers Nickel and hard chrome plating of new rolls to improve their wear resistance and surface characteristics and of worn rollers to return them to original or better than original condition. Nickel is used to deposit thin layers where corrosion resistance is required or thick layers where excessive wear or damage is present. Hard chrome is used to provide wear resistance, low friction, anti stick and controlled surface finish. Different surface textures and finishes can be produced for different applications. The same process is also applied to piston rods, pump and motor shafts, offshore components, etc.
hydraulic cylinder Nickel and hard chrome plating of new and worn hydraulic cylinders and piston rods used in a wide range of applications including mining, rail, offshore and marine industries. Outside diameters and bores can be processed using nickel and hard chrome to provide a wide range of benefits. New components are processed to provide wear and corrosion resistance, low friction and anti-stick properties and controlled surface finishes. Worn components are processed to return them to original or better than original condition as well as providing all of the above benefits.
Zinc and Brown Passivation

Zinc electroplating with a variety of passivations and sealing provides excellent corrosion resistance and can act as a sacrificial layer to protect the base material.
Passivations offer additional corrosion resistance.
Applying a sealant to these deposits can further enhance performance.
The coating can be used as a base for other processes such as painting.

PTFE and MoS2 coatings such as Xylan, Everslik and Molykote are coatings which are applied using a spray gun technique and are then baked at high temperatures. These coatings provide good lubrication and controlled friction properties, are highly anti-corrosive and are also heat resistant which allows them to be deployed in high operating temperature applications. They provide a high level of chemical resistance and are available in a wide range of colours and formulations to suit operational requirements.
Anodising Hard, chromic, plain and coloured anodising onto a range of aluminium alloys, giving a hard surface offering wear resistance, corrosion protection, electrical resistance, uniform coverage and pleasing visual appearance with low friction, good release and non-wetting properties. The anodising process which is best suited to the requirements can be selected to give the optimum surface characteristics for the particular application.
Alocrom 1200

Alocrom is a process carried out as a surface finish in itself or as a pre-treatment prior to painting. The process offers corrosion protection, especially where electrical conductivity is required.
DMI supply Alocrom 100 (blue/green) and 1200 (gold) finishes.

Phosphating Phosphate coating of steel components in itself or as a pre-treatment providing anti-galling, corrosion protective, wear resistance, reduced friction and a good base for oil retention, painting or other coatings such as painting.
Painting

Painting. DMI offer a complete ‘one stop’ service allowing pre-coatings such as nickel, zinc, anodising, Alocrom and phosphating to be combined with painting to provide customers with a finished component. Multi coat and epoxy top coat processes in brush and spray application can be offered.

Many worn components, which are difficult, expensive or time consuming to replace, can be returned to original or better than original condition quickly and cost effectively by DMI.
